We think it’s important to begin our relationship with all our patients on the right foot, so we look at your first visit as an opportunity to provide a firm foundation for trust, understanding, and mutual respect. Your first visit with us isn’t a commitment; it explores whether we are right for each other. Not only will we get acquainted, but we’ll also talk about our expectations and goals so that we know we’re on the same page.
Basic Paperwork
There’s no reason to waste precious time going over paperwork these days. Instead, we try to get this out of the way before your first visit. We will send you the forms you need so that you can fill them out in the comfort of your own home and at your own convenience.
When you send the forms back to us, we will review them, and you won’t have to waste that time sitting around the waiting room. Instead, you only need to visit our office for your appointment with your hygienist and dentist.
Your First Appointment
The first person you’ll meet with is your dental hygienist for an examination of your mouth, teeth, gums, and bite. We will take digital photographs of your mouth and your smile. We will also take measurements to determine the health and balance of your bite. This is a quick and non-invasive way to determine the aesthetics and health of your mouth at this point. We won’t take x-rays at this visit, and we’ll never randomly poke and prod at your teeth and gums. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable and relaxed on this first visit.
After the initial images are taken, you will meet with your cosmetic dentist and the new patient coordinator to review your photographs. We put them on a big screen TV so you can see what’s going on in your mouth. Now we can talk again about your concerns and your goals with concrete reference to the actual state of your teeth. We can also call up data about your bite so we can begin to address functional as well as cosmetic issues.
In conversation with our dentist and patient coordinator, we will all get a greater understanding of the current condition of your mouth and jaw. We will explore options to solve problems and overcome challenges that keep you from being completely happy with the health, beauty, and function of your mouth and jaw. You will have choices about what should be done about these issues or even whether we should continue to work together or not.
