Should I Choose Dental Bonding or Porcelain Veneers?
If you’re curious as to whether you should choose dental bonding or dental veneers, one of our cosmetic dentists will have a sure answer for you. If you’re looking for a long-lasting solution, porcelain veneers are the better option. If you want to improve your smile but aren’t ready to commit to porcelain veneers, give dental bonding a try. If you don’t like it, you can always have the bonding composite removed. If you do like the results, you can opt for a longer-lasting cosmetic solution like porcelain veneers.
What are the Different Types of Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are generally made out of porcelain or composite material because it is tooth-colored. The only main difference between veneers is their level of thickness. Thin veneers may not require any preparation of your teeth beforehand, while thicker veneers will require some of your enamel to be removed in order to place the veneers on your teeth.
Do Porcelain Veneers Stain?
No. Porcelain veneers do not stain no matter how much red wine you drink. If you’re looking for a way to maintain a glowing white smile for years to come, opt for a full smile of porcelain veneers. Over the years, however, it is possible for your teeth underneath the veneers to become stained. By the time this happens, you will most likely need to replace your veneers anyways.
How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?
With regular brushing and flossing and proper care, your porcelain veneers can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. It’s important to care for your dental hygiene and to not cause any physical damage to the veneers. You can avoid physical damage by wearing a nightguard when you sleep if you’re prone to teeth grinding, or by not biting into hard foods or using your teeth as tools.
Who is Not a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
Patients who have gum disease or a large amount of tooth decay are not good candidates for porcelain veneers. Patients must have a healthy smile in order for the veneers to last for years to come. We recommend treating underlying problems first before opting for a cosmetic procedure.
